MadPea - The Case for Praying Mary Hunt - and my gift

I was very excited to have been accepted along with fourteen other designers to participate in the MadPea - The Case of Praying Mary hunt.

The tale behind the hunt is as follows :

Widow Millar was nicknamed 'Praying Mary' due to gruesome killings of three of her husbands and praying next to their dead bodies. Mary denied everything and claimed it was all a misunderstanding. Her motives were never understood. Once Mary was caught during her murderous act towards husband number four, she was sent to the Peatonville Asylum and was locked away in an isolated cell. The number XVIII was engraved over and over on Mary's cell, but no one was able to figure out the meaning for it. Mary herself passed away under sinister circumstances in the Peatonville Asylum in 1934 and the case went cold.

Millar's abandoned house was long closed from public until it was eventually sold to a family fairly recently. While refurbishing the house, they discovered a hidden journal underneath the planks on the floor. The journal seems to have been written by Mary herself and it desribes clearly how Mary did not only kill the three men who married her, but also the 15, who refused her proposal or otherwise got in her way.

After some thorough investigation it's been confirmed, that 15 men went indeed missing during the years of 1920 and 1933. The grounds of the former Millar house were turned upside down, but no bodies were found. The journal is the only clue of what has happened to these men. On each page of the journal, next to the description of the killings, Mary has drawn a cross with jibberish on it. It's believed that when someone deciphers the message, the bodies of the men can finally be found and their souls released to rest in peace.

My contribution/gift for the final act of the hunt is - a house.  Yeah I know.  But I love to build houses.  This house is really special to me though.  It has working windows, locking doors, and a hidden compartment.  It also has all the normal sanctuaire details - like trim, hinges, door knobs - oh and of course custom textures.  The total prims for this house are 129.   Yeah I know!  Like I said I am pretty proud of myself for this one too.

Here are all the pictures for it -

First House in the Old South / Louisiana Series - Fais Do-Do Shotgun

Ok, I admit it I have been watching a lot of True Blood.  But this house has nothing to do with the show.  This is the beginning of my ode to New Orleans and the Old South.  My grandmother was from New Orleans and she used to tell me the tales of it as a little kid while eating gumbo out of a bowl on her lap.

So in honor of everything I love about Louisiana, I have decided to start building a few houses in a series that are inspired by the South.

The first is Fais Do-Do.  In Creole, Fais Do-Do is a dance party that would happen after the kids would go to bed.  So, I built a shotgun house that makes me want to do a little dance and have a party.

I hope you love it as much as I do!

Four Walls Hunt Gift Finished! Party for me!

I have been taking a break from building my current build (which has taken me longer than usual to do due to being very picky.  Trust me it will be worth it when I release it in a few days.)  To work on my Four Walls hunt gift/prize.

I decided to create my version of a garden party.  It is copy/no mod/ no transfer.  This is my first almost entirely mesh item.  Only two items are sculpt and that is cause I couldn't find a mesh item the quality that I wanted.  Well, that and being to lazy to figure out how to make it myself in mesh.

The hunt is from September 1st through 15th.  There are a ton of fantastic designers involved and I am proud to have been accepted.

Here is the first pictures of it.  I hope you love it as much as I did making it.

- hugs and all that stuff

Me on Mesh...Just my opinion

For the record.  I love mesh.  Well I love details and mesh gives me the details I want in an item for very little prims - in most cases.  However I also love the ability to customize items.  I don't know about you but when I buy a home/store/random build - often the item isn't exactly what I want... But it is close.  I tend to only buy builds that I can modify.  Well, with all of the all mesh builds I have found - you either can't or it is tricky to do.  In fact for most people I wouldn't even tell you to attempt modifying them.  Bad bad mojo happens.  So, what is a builder elf to do?   Let me tell you about my - for the moment master plan.  You should lean in close as I whisper this.....

I am going to meld everything into my builds.  Yeah I know, a shocking and majorly strange concept.  Primwork has been around for eons in SL -- so obviously it works.  So I tend to shell (the walls and exteriors) of my builds as primwork.  However I am clever and know of ways to make this lower prim.  And no, I won't tell you how I do this even though I am sure you are smart enough to figure out how I do this.  I use sculpts sparingly.  Why, well cause I honestly feel that in most cases mesh is better - so why use it.  Yes, some cases - it is smarter to use sculpts.  So never be shocked if you see a few but the majority of the build will not be.  Now back to my beloved mesh....  Did I mention that I love mesh?

Any detail that you see in my builds is probably mesh.  Which means you need a viewer able to see mesh.  Why mesh when I can do it in alphas?  Well, I hate alphas.  There I said it.  I hate them.  I hate clashing.  I hate when you look at a window and the tree appears through it.  It just really irks me.  So, why should I use an alpha "sticker" corbel when I can use a mesh one that has so much more detail?  For me logically it is a no brainer.  I am not against wasting a prim or two so I can have the look that I want.  But that is me.

Ok, I vented on my opinions on the current items that I use in my builds.

I hope it clarifies a few questions that I have received...

Viva la Mesh!

-Take care

P.S. - This doesn't mean that I won't be making an all mesh build ever -- oh it is coming.  Just for now and to make the most people happy - this is the route I am travelling.
